The College Independent collection consists of one ledger containing periodical "newspapers" written by students at Gustavus Adolphus College. Entries are in English and Swedish although more of the former. Topics varied but generally were about local concerns. A number of the writings were written by recent immigrants or the children of immigrants. This is evidenced by articles discussing American customs and the English language.
